On September 18, 2018, Canadian rapper, Drake filed a lawsuit against Laquana Morris (formally known as Layla Lace) for civil extortion, intentional infliction of emotional distress, abuse of process, fraud and defamation.
Drake first met Laquana Morris while on tour for his Boy Meets World Tour in Manchester, England sometime in February 2017.
In the lawsuit, Drake claims that he and Laquana had consensual sex after one of his concerts. There are a series of text messages sent from Laquana to Drake expressing how much she missed him and could not wait to see him again. At some point Drake stopped responding to her texts and, as a result, Laquana became infuriated.
In April 2017, Laquana took to Instagram and posted a video claiming that she was pregnant by Drake. She states, “So I guess still in this era this is the new thing that after you tell a dude about you pregnant they stop answering they phone”. According to the lawsuit, Laquana proceeded by threatening to expose Drake with publicly leaking their text messages.
The lawsuit continues to allege that Laquana has not taken a paternity test to prove that Drake is the father.
In May 2017, Laquana Morris hired a lawyer and threatened to sue Drake for defamation after reading a story about him claiming that he had no knowledge of who she was. She then demanded money for her alleged baby from the rapper as well.
Once Laquana’s demands had not been met, according to the lawsuit, she went to the New York authorities and claimed Drake had raped her during their night at their hotel together in February 2017. The case was then transferred to Manchester police and Drake was clear of any allegations.
Unfortunately, Laquana demands continued this time asking for millions of dollars in exchange for her silence.
Drake has yet to respond since publicly announcing his lawsuit against Laquana.
