Unfortunately, on September 30, 2018 an earthquake and tsunami with a 7.5 magnitude tore through Indonesia leaving great amounts of damage and debris. This disaster has left over 800 people dead and thousands fighting for their lives as we speak.
Buildings have fallen and homes have collapsed, leaving the people of Indonesia with no shelter and food. Right now, the Red Cross and other emergency assistance organizations are scrambling to find those who’ve managed to survive this horrific storm.
People had difficulty trying to escape the storm last minute due to complications with the tsunami warning system. Apparently, there was an initial warning, but after it was lifted, the storm hit the next day. So, a lot of houses collapsed while there were still families inside of them.
Those in need of immediate assistance cannot receive it because it is taking an extremely long time to actually get in Indonesia. In the meantime, troops are trying to prevent the spread of disease by digging out mass graves in order to dispose of the bodies.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the people that were affected by the destruction and devastation that this storm has caused. We are praying for a speedy recovery.
