When you go to Bed, you eventually have to wake back up
R&B crooner, J Holiday learned this lesson the hard way over the weekend, after he jumped at the opportunity to check B.E.D singer, (oh damn, Bed vs B.E.D) and Trip song stealer Jaquees over his claim that he was the new face of R&B. Vid below.
Problem is…. when people think… “King of R&B”, they don’t think J. Holiday. If we’re being completely honest, even the list of names he mentioned is out of order. Let’s dissect.
- First off, assuming the first name he mentioned is Michael Jackson… I don’t consider Michael Jackson an R&B singer… I may be wrong… but I’m probably not.
- Secondly, 2… should be 1
- Chris brown is dope… but you leapfrogged a LOT of names to put him in this spot. I don’t know about this one chief
I’m going to give young Jacquees the benefit of the doubt and say he meant CURRENT R&B scene… I mean, he’s still wrong… but that makes J. Holiday even more wrong… because he mentioned one singer that’s passed on, one that doesn’t put out anything more than 8 minute ramblings about peeing on people, and one guy that puts out amazing raps on the joys of Friday…. no shade to Chris brown because he shifts between genres effortlessly.
If we’re going to mention current R&B figureheads tho, let’s start with guys like Daniel Caesar, TY $, I’d even throw Bruno Mars in there…. (Versace on the Floor is a panty dropper). But J. Holidays rediculous viral video didn’t go unnoticed by his contemporaries, and a few of them weighed in.
The two things I’ve drawn from this…
- TI’s reign as “King of the South” has never been challenged
- Beyonce is the one true King of R&B
