After news broke out about Atlanta hosting the 2019 Super Bowl, many suspected that an Atlanta artist would perform during the halftime show. In fact, the opportunity was seen as a huge platform to showcase the city’s hip hop history. Thousands of fans even expressed their opinions over the internet. Bruno Mars even tweeted on the opportunity back in February.
. @NFL you have the opportunity to celebrate incredible Hip Hop Artist from Atlanta Next year.

Unfortunately, the NFL didn’t pay attention to internet’s opinion. Instead they chose Maroon 5. I think it’s safe to say that fans are extremely disappointed in the decision. Of course, everyone appreciates the pop rock band, however, no one wants them to play at Super Bowl LIII. The reveal of the headliner is disrespectful to Atlanta’s rich musical history.
Fans and celebrities continued to express their opinions once more. Furthermore, there is a even listed all the artists the NFL passed on.
WTF. Outcast, Usher, Ludicrous, T.I, Migos, Yeezy, Lil Jon are ATL originals and we get Maroon 5?🤷🏾♂️ https://t.co/7Y3XLgNh0u

Overall, the NFL missed a huge opportunity. Our only hope now is that Maroon 5 incorporates some of the city’s legendary artists in their show.
